The Balloon Ride & What to Expect
Upon arrival at the site for your balloon flight, you will be met by the pilot and crew. Please remember, the time we ask you to be there is only the meeting time and not when the hot air balloon is taking off. A crew member will check you in and then inform you of what will be happening and what will be required of you.
The flight crew will begin to prepare the balloon, at this point you may help to lay the balloon out ready for inflation, and your assistance is absolutely voluntary.
The pilot will then give you a flight briefing, he will run through some safety information, tell you what to expect on the flight, what direction we will be flying in and any other relevant information he feels is relevant to your balloon flight.
The inflation fans are started and the balloon slowly fills with cold air, when ready the pilot applies the heat and the balloon slowly rises off the ground, once upright you must climb aboard. ( For passengers that may have difficulty climbing up into the basket, they can be put aboard when the basket is on its side prior to inflation, they will then gently come up into the upright position already in the basket).
Final checks and briefings are completed and the balloon is ready for lift off. At this stage the balloon may sway around depending on the wind conditions, please don’t be alarmed as once airborne the basket is perfectly still. The hot air balloon will rise majestically into the sky as its occupants bid farewell to those remaining on the ground. The balloon will fly on average 1000ft above the ground, the pilot uses the wind at different heights to control his direction. Therefore you may find yourself on your balloon flight at 3000ft one minute admiring the panoramic views and the next minute drifting just above the treetops.
Your balloon flight will last up to an hour sometimes more, sometimes a little less. The length of the Balloon ride is dependant on the speed of the wind and finding a suitable landing place.
After about an hour of the balloon ride the pilot will bring the balloon gently back to Mother earth, you will be briefed on your landing position again. Once on the ground, the chase crew will contact the land owner to seek permission to drive on the property and retrieve the balloon.
Usually we all pack up the balloon together and drive out of the property, prior to celebrating the flight with champagne and of course orange juice for the drivers! Friends that have followed along may of course join in, however we only supply champagne for the passengers. The opportunity to view the in-flight photo and our extensive range of merchandise is made available at this time. Finally a commemorative first flight certificate will be presented by the pilot.
Passengers who do not have followers will be offered a free lift back to their cars in the balloon recovery vehicle. We do not hold Hackney Carriage licenses like a taxi, so this is an optional free service.
Your Global Balloon Ride experience will last approximately three to four hours overall.
Note:
At the check-in process you will be asked to sign a declaration that states you are fit and well and fully understand that ballooning, though the safest form of aviation has an element of risk, which you are signing that you accept. Also if you are on any medication or seeing a doctor you must declare this fact.
The deceleration does not change your statutory position, you will still be insured for the balloon ride up to £6 million for any one claim.
